March 3, 2009 - John G. Nettles of Athens, Georgia's alternative newsweekly, Flagpole Magazine, wrote a great review that calls Dream City "one of the most impressive first novels I've ever encountered."

November 30, 2008 - The Oklahoma Gazette recently ran a review of Dream City by Rod Lott that says, "It's rare that a novel can affect and haunt the reader to a marked degree, but this one does."

October 30, 2008 - Dream City is reviewed in this week's issue of the Chicago Reader as part of a cover story on local authors.

September 13, 2008 - Dream City leads off the Chicago Tribune's fall preview of sixty new books. I have to say it is pretty exciting (and definitely intimidating and humbling) to see my novel listed along with books by Marilynne Robinson, Philip Roth, Annie Proulx and so many other terrific writers.

September 10, 2008 - My essay "My Life as a Collector" currently appears on

September 1, 2008 - In its September issue, Chicago Magazine calls Dream City "A powerful first novel...set in a faithfully re-created Depression-era Chicago." But I am most excited that the review is a few pages away from a feature on the great Emo Philips.

August 18, 2008 - Barnes & Noble Review recently featured Dream City in its "Spotlight" section of "what not to miss this week in books, music, and film."
